SMART CAR – ‘Bigger than small’

We’re going BIG in this new spot for Smart car! This playful & punchy piece has everything: cities built in CG, retro arcade graphics, absolutely cosmic compositing, and even a massive hot air balloon!

Take a peek at how our team at Glassworks Amsterdam made this spot come together and proved that Smart car is actually “Bigger than Small”

We got to do some amazing visual effects for a Smart Car commercial by the guys at Halal Berlin. I got a hand in multiple shots by doing tracking, assets, lighting and rendering, but spent most my time on one shot in particular. In the commercial there’s a shot where the camera flies through the floor and we view a Smart Car from below the streets of Barcelona. In order to make this a reality, we did a big photogrammetry build of the a Barcelonian street. In addition to this, we built multiple custom made store-fronts, street accessories, road markings, balconies, an underground piping system, and finally CG cars. This was a massive build, a great challenge and mostly, a lot of fun to design and put together.
